The Challenge We Face

Open Defecation Crisis

It is an open secret that open defecation is the bane of our rural communities. Everyday, our people, more especially, our children are dying from diarrheal diseases caused by open defecation.

Jigawa State Case Study

In October 2022, UNICEF endorsed Jigawa as Nigeria's only Open Defecation-Free State, however, the vast majority of the local latrines have collapsed, returning the state to worse than status quo. Report has it that Jigawa State struggles with human faeces, and indeed, stands the risk of its certificate being withdrawn owing to lack of sustainability.

Our Goal

The goal of HIWWEST is to help the Federal Government of Nigeria to mobilise funds to build modern public/community toilets and water facilities in public places such as schools, markets, motor parks, etc to End Open Defecation, and thus, defeat cholera, one of the greatest killers in Nigeria for good.
